Don't get rid of your turnip greens! Chop them off of your turnips before storing in the fridge in order to help the greens and roots last longer. We like to lightly sauté the greens in garlic and ...
  • FarmerDave I add them to a simple stir fry with ginger and tamari. I never used to keep turnip greens, but I'm so glad I do now.
  • RahulRaRa I wonder if you can use these greens like you use spinach in some Indian flatbreads.
  • olivettefarm @RahulRaRa I bet you could. The turnips greens will cook a little quicker than spinach does possibly. @FarmerDave that sounds good! Gonna have to try that.

  • NehaNBB I've been saving a bunch of old scraps and stems to make stock. Great post!
  • Brianne I just made my own stock last week for the first time, and it is much more tasty than anything in a can or box.
  • LezEngel It's hard to go back to store- bought stock once you make it yourself!

"Companies that launched the gourmet-food-production scene in 2008 fed New York City's manufacturing revival. Now entrepreneurs are finding their dreams wiped out by rents and regulations"
  • munchiemummy It's such a shame; I've been saying for years over here in the UK that there should be a tax break/incentive or rent cap for small businesses renting shops- SOMETHING to help the little guys and...
  • DietID_TeamDietitians This makes me so sad! There are a lot of new food halls opening, but I feel they run into the same problem. The TasteNY campaign put on by the NY State Department of Ag has done a good job of...

  • GooseBarry The salad dressing diagram, while simple, is so helpful. I somehow always make mine too acidic.
  • NehaNBB I wish the egg substitute diagram came with a 'best use' indicator. Like bananas work in cakes, and that chickpea water works for mayo.
  • annefood So true @NehaNBB !

The squash are not too far behind. When harvesting for eating, only harvest the male blossoms, which grow on a stem and don't bear fruit. #gardeningtips #kitchentips
  • Yfalkson Can you tell me more about how to tell the male ones? Not sure I follow
  • Georegulus @sugardetoxme will probably answer, but the male blossoms grow on a long skinny stem whereas the females clearly have a fruit growing beneath the blossom.
  • JenniferEmilson I can't wait to find them here at our markets!
