I'm not a researcher or an urban farmer, but I have had a garden before and was able to grow a lot. That doesn't mean it's 'enough' but some is better than none. We also have a ton of underutilized space in urban environments, e.g. rooftops. Now I have never grown anything on a rooftop, but others have, and they seem to be successful.

The biggest challenge is in making the production make economic sense - it's great to produce and to be able to have greater control over your own food, but it can't really be sustained if you're losing money at it.
"Brighter Bites has distributed over 8 million pounds of produce to more than 20,000 families, and nearly 75% of them say the lifestyle change has stuck."
"It sounds like wise, low-key advice, but it's actually total B.S." #foodnews

My idea of moderation is asking myself what have I not eaten in a while? If I haven't remembered the last time I had a soda, it's time for a soda :)
