Where's your favorite coffee from?
santeustachioilcaffe.it

Are you always trying out new coffees and will only buy beans? My fave is Sante Eustachio from Rome since 1938. Tastes like earthy deep cacao.

Why Booming Demand Is Making Vanilla Taste Worse
bloomberg.com

Interesting article from Bloomberg about the high global demand for vanilla that's severely affecting its quality, and the government of Madagascar's efforts to fix this.
-
DietID_TeamDietitians So fascinating! Vanilla has always been popular, but I think for some of these "fad" foods that pick up steam so quickly, we may see a similar dip in quality to keep up with demand
-
JenniferEmilson Too true Rachna. It's happened with quinoa, chia etc. Always been there, but then trends suddenly spike their demand and quality and pricing are the victims! @Rachna
-
DietID_TeamDietitians Definitely why we need to just embrace more diversity in our diet, and not turn everything into a fad.

macleans.ca

"Being a picky eater may be almost entirely learned, and that kids would eat everything from Brussels sprouts to broccoli—if we just gave them a chance"
-
PizzaCat So true! People say that kids don't like vegetables, but in truth they don't really get the chance to.
-
Ricky Interesting. Is the article saying that these things are decided early on? I've noticed that even things like salt preference can fluctuate on the order of weeks depending on habits. So wondering...
-
darkchocolatepeanutbutter @Ricky In the article, food writer Bee Wilson believes that taste is learned from our environment. Certain food preferences may start in the womb, depending on the mother's diet. My mom ate a lot...
Should we “rewild” our urban bodies with microbes from indigenous peoples? - Quartz
qz.com

"The best way of getting back essential bacteria we've lost to modern living may be to acquire them from people who live in remote parts of the world, and still have them."
-
DietID_TeamDietitians So interesting that so much of the gut biome is so unknown. Wonder who would be a big funder of this research
-
DietID_TeamDietitians Yes! @ricky this is why my policy is "dirt don't hurt."
