annefood 6yr Hey @ingalls ! Pizza is one of those foods like tomato sauce that should be naturally sugar free, but often isn't, depending on where you're getting it. If you're at the type of restaurant that uses all homemade ingredients you could ask your server if they would mind inquiring about any added sugar in the tomato sauce or crust. That's probably your best bet for a real food, sugarless pizza that you're not making yourself. Frozen pizzas often do contain added sugar, even the brands I typically recommend. Califlour Foods makes cauliflower crust pizzas you can order online and cook yourself that don't contain added sugar. And of course, the crust is made from a veggie so that's an added bonus. https://www.califlourfoods.com Or the best option is to make pizza yourself! Here's a recipe for cauliflower crust that you can fill with some cheese and delicious veggies. https://detoxinista.com/the-secret-to-perfect-cauliflower-pizza-crust/ Also, be sure to remember that the occasional slice of pizza is fine in moderation, as long as you're eating the real deal—ie not from a fast food restaurant, or a frozen pizza that contains a lot of junk. Pair a slice of veggie pizza with a green salad and you have a delicious treat that also has some good nutrition going on.

DietID_TeamDietitians 6yr And if you want to venture to make your own pizza crust at home, the Roberta's pizza crust recipe is THE BEST https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1016230-robertas-pizza-dough - no added sugar!

XxlxX 6yr As a healthy pizza base you could use a wrap and add your own veg, meats and cheese to it on top

gracealina 6yr I believe Biga makes their dough without sugar, not sure about their sauce, but they have/had a sign on the wall about the dough, and they’re usually very helpful answering questions about dietary restrictions. Maybe a margherita or pesto pizza with veggies?

ingalls 6yr Oooh - lots of ideas! Thanks everyone! I have been avoiding the temptations so far specifically for being fast food or frozen. But will definitely inquire about ingredients where I know it’s made fresh or make my own. Kinda bummed, though - seems like an easy “fast food” not to add extra sugar to, at least to the dough. I’m on a no sugar added pizza mission now! ;-)

gracealina 6yr Sugar or honey in the is usually used to activate the yeast in the dough. I guess there are ways to make it without but they take much longer from what I understand.

ingalls 6yr Might depend on time. I’m a Cooks Illustrated fan and noticed they have recipes both with and (mostly) without.
