Agree with @Rachna - I love chopped pear with my plain yogurt in the winter. I top it with toasted pecans and toasted unsweetened coconut flakes to amp up the crunch factor. I sprinkle on some ground flax seeds too, and occasionally cacao nibs. Love the crunch.

@NicoleDanielle you are not alone! They're one of few fruits that don't ripen on the tree, and actually ripen from the inside out so by the time they feel soft they are actually past their prime. The best way to check for ripeness is to push on the neck at the base of the stem. If it gives a little when you push it or looks slightly wrinkled the pear should be ready to be eaten :)
