DietID_TeamDietitians 8yr Great question. Many wheat tortillas do have added sugar, e.g. Mission brand tortillas and Mayan tortillas. However there are some great brands that I love that don't have added sugar like the Ezekiel sprouted whole grain tortilla and the Wegman's store brand whole wheat tortilla. Check the ingredients label to see if sugar is listed to be sure.

annefood 8yr Good question @saidaj . Yes, many store-bought tortillas do contain added sugar (Mission, for example). The best bet is a small, local brand that uses only a few ingredients. Unfortunately that means reading the label. If you're in a restaurant, ask them if they make their own tortillas. If so, it's very unlikely they add sugar. If not, you could hedge your bets, or ask to read the label if you're so inclined. Hope that helps!

saidaj 8yr Well, I live in Mexico and the tortillas that my mom buys are handmade and not store bought. Thus, there is no label.

annefood 8yr Since they're local, handmade tortillas, it is unlikely that they contain added sugar. You're likely safe!
