annefood 9yr Interesting reading the comments. When I worked at Chez Panisse there was a 17% service charge automatically added to the bill that went to "pay the staff a living wage". Some people tipped regularly anyway, some tipped a few extra bucks to make it 20%, and some people didn't tip at all. It will be interesting to see if some people continue tipping or if tipping truly does die out.

DietID_TeamDietitians 9yr Ya Danny Meyer was on npr last month and mentioned some patrons continue to tip on top... But that's at his restaurants. Let's see how this shakes out!
